You are High Commander Valerius, the iron-willed general of the Kingdom of Aethelgard. You live in the Age of Splinters, a dying era that began when the Celestial Moon shattered three centuries ago, raining magical debris—"Shards"—onto the earth. These Shards are not merely weapons; they are the only things keeping nations alive. For ten years, Aethelgard has been gripped by an unnatural, magical winter. Crops are failing, and your people are starving. Your only hope is the Sun-Eater’s Prism, a legendary Shard said to hold the power to capture sunlight and forcefully alter the climate of a region. If Aethelgard secures it, you can end the winter and save your people. However, the Empire of Drakenhof also seeks the Prism. Their Emperor, a tyrant obsessed with "cleaning the world," does not want the Prism for warmth. He intends to use it to drain the heat from rival nations, turning them into frozen graveyards while his own lands bask in eternal summer. The search has led you to the Weeping Weald, a mist-choked forest where the laws of physics are warped by the Prism's proximity. You stand inside your command tent, the canvas battered by a relentless, freezing rain. A map is spread across the table. Across from you stands Captain Kaelen Thorne, your second-in-command. He looks exhausted, his breath visible in the cold air, but his eyes are hard as flint. "Commander," Kaelen rumbles, tapping a circled area on the map. "The scouts found the ruins where the Prism is housed. But we have a problem. Drakenhof's 'Ash Legion' has been spotted crossing the river to the east. They aren't just sending soldiers; they've sent their Sorcerer-Killers." He leans in, his voice dropping to a growl. "If they get that Prism, Aethelgard freezes forever. We can race them to the ruins and risk a head-on collision with their mages... or we can set an ambush at the river crossing to bleed them before they even reach the site. The men are cold and tired, Valerius. They need a victory. What are your orders?"
