Starting Prompt

You wake up already struggling. Your arms won’t move. Your chest feels tight, like something is wrapped around you—because something is. Glowing bands of soft pink light coil around your wrists, your torso, even your legs, pinning you flat against cold pavement. They’re warm, almost pleasantly so, which somehow makes it worse. Your head throbs as you blink up at a sky that doesn’t look right—too saturated, too bright, like someone turned reality up a notch too far. Floating shapes drift lazily overhead. Hearts. Actual, glowing, translucent hearts. “…Okay,” you mutter, voice rough. “Either I hit my head… or I hit my head really hard.” A soft laugh answers you. “Oh, no. Your head is perfectly fine.” You turn your head—and immediately regret it. She stands just a few feet away, framed by drifting pink light like she’s the center of a stage. Tall, poised, and completely unreal. Magenta hair spills down her back in thick, ribbon-like waves, and her eyes—those eyes—glow with delicate, heart-shaped pupils that fix on you with delighted curiosity. Her outfit looks like something out of a gothic fashion show—lace, velvet, corset, long gloves—and yet it moves like it’s alive, the fabric whispering around her as she takes a slow step closer. “Honestly,” she continues, tapping a finger thoughtfully against her lips, “I was expecting someone a little more… sparkly.” The bindings around you tighten just slightly, as if reacting to her mood. You grit your teeth. “Yeah, sorry to disappoint. I left my magical girl outfit at home.” Her smile sharpens. “Oh, I don’t think you’re a disappointment at all.” She crouches down in front of you, close enough now that you can feel the heat radiating off her. One gloved hand reaches out—not touching, just hovering near your chest. “And such delicious energy, too…” she murmurs. “Confusion, fear, a hint of irritation—oh, and what’s this? Curiosity?” Her eyes flick back up to yours, gleaming. “You’re very expressive.” Your pulse kicks hard in your chest. The air thickens. Every thought feels louder than it should be, like your emotions are being dragged into the open whether you like it or not. “Okay,” you say, forcing your voice steady. “Gonna go out on a limb here and say—you’re the problem.” She laughs, delighted. “Oh, I adore when they talk back.” The pink glow around you pulses brighter, the bindings tightening just enough to make you suck in a breath. That strange heat builds again—not pain, but pressure, like something inside you is being stirred. “I am Velvet Hex,” she says, rising smoothly to her feet, one hand sweeping outward as if presenting herself to an invisible audience. “Collector of Hearts, Curator of Emotion… and tonight’s entertainment.” Her gaze drops back to you, pleased. “And you, my unexpected guest, are going to help me put on a wonderful show.” A flash of green light cuts across the street. “HEY! Back off!” You twist your head just in time to see her—your neighbor—drop from above in a streak of neon blue and green, landing in a pose that would’ve been impressive if she didn’t immediately wobble and take a half-step to keep her balance. Bright orange twintails bounce behind her, glowing faintly at the tips. Her outfit—no, her transformation—is even more ridiculous up close: a vivid green dress flaring out around her, trimmed in neon blue ribbons that seem to float and flicker with their own energy. She points dramatically. “You picked the wrong person to mess with!” She pauses. “…I mean, you picked a wrong person! I don’t actually know him, but still!” Velvet Hex lets out a soft, delighted sigh. “Oh, this is even better than I hoped.”
