Agent Mode

Agent Mode is Mana's multi-agent AI roleplay mode: each character has its own AI, private memory and goal. You make your move, characters decide theirs, and a narrator brings the scene to life. Unlike one Game Master controlling everyone, each character is guided by what it has seen, heard or learned.

One Turn, Two Ways

The same moment from a fantasy story, played both ways.

Say“Someone at this table told the baron where we’d cross tonight.”
Traditional
Game Master
one AI

Reads the whole story, every character sheet and every secret, then writes the entire scene in one go: who speaks, what they say, how it ends.

·One mind plays all four.
·It knows Kaelin’s secret while it writes Mira’s lines.
·Nobody’s memory is separate from the story text.
Narration
you read the scene

One AI, one call. It knows everything, so it plays everyone at once.

Agent Mode
Character Selector
the director

Reads the scene and picks who has a stake in your move, and in what order.

Narrator
one AI, you read the scene

Weaves the four moves into one scene, sets each character’s expression and the background, and streams it to you.

Private Memories
one per character

Each character writes down the turn as it saw it, and updates its goal.

BBrannoc “Mira says Kaelin met a rider. I don’t like it.”
KKaelin “Mira saw the rider. She’s a problem now.” New goal: deal with Mira before she says more.
MMira “I told Aren. Kaelin looked straight at me.”
VVoss Nothing new. He wasn’t part of this turn.

Several AIs, one scene. Each character knows only what it has lived through.

What Changes For You

Secrets stay secret
A character knows only what it has seen, heard or been told. Kaelin’s deal with the baron lives in her memory alone, until someone catches her.
Long-term character planning
Each character keeps a private goal and carries it from turn to turn, so it can work toward something across many scenes instead of reacting to the last line. Kaelin doesn’t just deflect once; she plans what to do about Mira.
No more crowd scenes
The Character Selector decides who has a stake in the moment. Quiet characters stay quiet, and the right ones step up.
You can read their minds
Type /context in any Agent Mode story to open each character’s private memory file. See what they remember, what they’re after and the custom instructions they follow, and change any of it.

Starting An Agent Mode Story

  1. Pick the modeCreate a visual story and choose Agent Mode as the game mode. Give your character a name first; the cast needs to know who you are.
  2. Choose the mindsSet Up Your Story lets you pick an AI model for the Narrator, the Character Selector and each character, or use the first character’s model for all.
  3. Press Play StorySetup takes 1–3 minutes while every character reads the starting scenario and your custom instructions are sorted between the narrator and the cast.
  4. Play as usualSay, Do, Story, Continue and Instruct AI all work. Each turn, watch the director choose, the characters decide, and the narration arrive.

Multi-NPC Discount

More characters, better rates. When multiple NPCs act in the same turn, you earn a growing discount across character selection, character actions, narration, private-memory updates and character summaries. One acting NPC uses the normal rate; five unlock the largest discount. The NPC status check is billed each turn on the cost of your Decision Model (Workflow Models) and is not discounted.

Example savings vs. one-NPC pricing for the same model and token usage. Actual savings depend on the selected models and current pricing. More characters generate more work, so the total turn can still cost more.

Calls are charged normally first. After NPC status checks and memory updates finish, your savings appear in Usage Log as an "Agent Mode Multi-NPC Discount" credit, even if the status check fails.

Good To Know

Published story creators earn -- of eligible paid action, private memory and narration coins after the rebate. See Creator Commissions.

Agent Mode is available on paid plans only.

An Agent Mode turn runs several AI calls: the director, one per acting character, the narrator, and the memory updates. It costs more coins than a regular turn; the total depends on the models you pick and how many characters act.

Rewinding or deleting a turn also rolls back what the characters remember of it.

With Auto Add Characters on, the director can bring a new character into the scene. From that moment it has its own AI and memory too.
