Creating a Story

Getting Started

A friendly tour of the New Story setup flow.

Create a new story by pressing the New Story tab in the left menu. Story setup is a three-slide setup flow.

Title and Description

FieldsInfo
Story TypeChoose the story format for this setup. The creator flow is centered on stories with generated images, characters, and backgrounds.
Gameplay modeChoose Standard Roleplay for a flowing, responsive story, or Realism Roleplay for a more grounded story where choices can fail and consequences matter. Once a story begins, this mode cannot be changed.
Story EraChoose Fantasy, Modern, or Futuristic. This sets the general time period and helps Mana choose fitting background images.
Story NameGive the story a clear name. This field is required and can be up to 50 characters.
DescriptionDescription of the story that appear on the main site and the first item that shows on the story preview screen. The narration AI does not see this.

FieldsInfo
Starting PromptWrite the opening scene and situation the AI starts from. In Manual mode this is required. Auto Generate can expand a short idea here into a fuller setup.
Custom InstructionsOptional guidance for the AI, such as tone, pacing, rules, or how characters should behave. Use this for direction you want the Game Master to remember throughout play.
Player Character Info

Optional, it is generally best to leave it untouched so players can choose their own starting character.

Character Name
Name the character the player controls. Use {user} if you want players to choose their own name before the story starts.
Gender
Choose Male, Female, or leave it User Selectable so the player can decide later.
Background
Describe who the player character is, where they come from, and what matters about them. This is included in the story setup the AI reads.
Custom Player Image Tags
Add comma-separated danbooru appearance tags for the player character, such as hair color, eye color, outfit, or body type. These tags are used when the player appears in generated images for specific models. Ignore for most setups.
Character Info

Press Edit Characters to bring up the character selection menu. Here, add all characters you would like to include in the story.

Text wrapped in double pipes like ||secrets|| in background and personality section are hidden from players, but visible to AI.

Character Name
Each selected character needs a name. The AI uses names to identify characters in narration and visual scenes.
Background
Describe a character's history, role, relationships, goals, or secrets. This helps the AI understand who they are in the story.
Personality
Describe how the character acts, talks, and reacts. This helps the AI keep their behavior consistent.
Importance
Choose High for major characters who need richer detail in the AI prompt. Choose Low for side characters when you want to save prompt space.
Voice
Choose the voice used for that character in template and audio features. Every character needs an assigned voice before saving a template.
BackgroundsChoose the locations the story can show. At least one background is required, and the first background is used as the starting visual background.

VisibilityChoose Private to keep the story visible only to you, or Public to publish it as a shareable template.
Template SettingCreate Without makes a normal private story. Save As Template stores a clean reusable setup with characters, world, and prompts but no chat history. Public stories are always saved as templates.
